WINFIELD, KAN. – The Southwestern College Women's Flag Football team battled Kansas Wesleyan University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan. Right from the kickoff, it was evident that both teams were eager to make their mark on the field. However, it was the Coyotes who quickly seized control of the game as they showcased their offensive power in a 19-0 win.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Coyotes begun to showcase their offensive talent in the second quarter as KWU's quarterback, Chihiro Iwata, orchestrated two impressive touchdown drives. The first touchdown came with 5:11 min remaining in the second quarter when Jazmine Whitfield caught an 8-yard pass from Iwata, putting the Coyotes ahead 7-0. Capitalizing on their momentum, KWU extended their lead just before halftime, as Ja'Daa Wilson caught a 7-yard pass from Iwata with only 5 seconds left on the clock.
Despite the failed extra point attempt, KWU headed into halftime with a commanding 13-0 lead.
The third quarter saw both teams battling fiercely, but neither managed to put points on the board. KWU's defense held strong, denying SWC any opportunities to score.
As the fourth quarter commenced, KWU continued to assert their dominance. Iwata connected with Ciaran DeCuir for another touchdown with 8:29 remaining, further extending KWU's lead to 19-0. Despite their best efforts, SWC struggled to mount a comeback against KWU's formidable defense.
When the final whistle blew, KWU emerged victorious with a shutout
performance, holding SWC scoreless throughout the game.
In terms of statistics, the Coyotes showed dominance in passing yards with 181 yards through the air on 22 completions. The Builders on the other side showed their power in rushing yards as they managed to run for 70 rushing yards on 12 attempts.
The Builders will be back in action on Saturday, March 9
th at 1:00 p.m. when they host play to Baker University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan.
