4/25/2024 1:25:00 PM

WINFIELD, Kan. - Athletic Director, Matt O'Brien has announced that Ken Brokaw has been selected to lead the Southwestern College volleyball program.

"I am happy to welcome Coach Brokaw to the Moundbuilder family, said O'Brien. "His energy and passion for our student athletes will be a tremendous asset for our volleyball program and the Builder community."

As the Assistant Men's & Women's Volleyball Coach at Graceland University, Brokaw honed his skills under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach, Stew McDole, and former Division I coach, Anthony Yerardi. His responsibilities included crafting scouting reports, assisting with game strategies, and mentoring players.

Prior to his tenure at Graceland, Ken served as the Head Men's Volleyball Coach at The University of Olivet, where he solidified his status as the winningest coach in program history. His dedication to building a cohesive team culture from the ground up resulted in unprecedented success, including the recruitment of the largest roster in school history, most wins in a season, and the breaking of multiple single-season team and individual records.

Before his role at Olivet, Brokaw spearheaded the turnaround of volleyball programs at Washtenaw Community College (WCC) and Vandercook Lake High School (VCL). Through his emphasis on fundamentals, communication, and strategic planning, he led WCC to their first-ever victories, as well as maintaining a winning record each season. His time at VCL culminated in the first district and conference championships in over three decades, repeating as back-to-back district champions, and earning regional Coach of the Year honors.

Brokaw's coaching prowess extends beyond the volleyball court, as evident through his contributions to various track and field programs. He coached six all-state pole vaulters and an indoor state champion, as well as multiple school record holders. Two of his top vaulters are currently in the college ranks, with one being a top vaulter in the NAIA, and the other a freshman at the NCAA Division I level.

As our new Head Women's Volleyball Coach, Ken is poised to continue his legacy of excellence, empowering student-athletes to reach their full potential on and off the court. With his unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of growth, leadership, and achievement, Ken is ready to lead our program to new heights. Join us in welcoming Ken as he embarks on this exciting journey with us.

Brokaw is a graduate of Siena Heights University.
