Builder Softball Wins Game One And Takes Defeat in Game Two Against York University

YORK, NEB. – On Wednesday, April 3rd, the Southwestern College Softball team traveled to York University in York, Neb. In an electrifying showdown, Southwestern College emerged victorious over York University in game one with a final score of 10-5. In game two, the Builders had to take defeat against the Panthers.
 
GAME 1| 1:00 PM
 
The game kicked off with Southwestern making their presence felt early on, as N. Davis smashed a homer to left center in the 2nd inning, driving in the first run of the game. F. Howard's double and a wild pitch allowed Southwestern to extend their lead to 2-0.
 
York fought back in the bottom of the 2nd, with S. Ayala grounding out to shortstop but driving in N. Reed, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.
 
However, Southwestern's offense exploded in the 4th inning. Howard's double brought in two more runs, followed by R. Wright's single and a throwing error that led to three more unearned runs. T. Mesna and T. Henry added to the onslaught with RBI singles, extending Southwestern's lead to a commanding 9-1.
 
Southwestern's N. Davis continued her dominance with another homer in the 6th inning, stretching the lead to 10-2.
 
York attempted a late rally in the 6th and 7th innings, with P. Chapman and T. Trice delivering RBI hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome Southwestern's lead as the Builders won the game 10-5. 
 
GAME 2 | 3:00 PM
 
In a high-scoring softball showdown, York University emerged triumphant over Southwestern College with an impressive final score of 19-7.
 
The game opened with York taking an early lead in the 1st inning, capitalizing on a sacrifice fly by S. Perez and a throwing error, allowing them to jump ahead 3-0.
 
Southwestern swiftly responded in the 2nd inning, with N. Celestino and T. Powers each blasting homers, bringing in a total of six runs and putting Southwestern ahead 6-3.
 
However, York surged back in the bottom of the 2nd, showcasing their own power at the plate. K. Anderson's homer drove in four runs, followed by another homer from S. Perez and a fielder's choice that capitalized on errors, propelling York to a commanding 13-6 lead.
 
Despite Southwestern adding one more run in the 3rd inning, York's offense continued to dominate. G. Torstense's homer in the 4th inning sealed the victory for the Panthers.


The Builders will be back in action on Saturday, April 6th when they battle Kansas Wesleyan University at Salina, Kan.
