Builder Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to MidAmerica Nazarene in Home Opener

WINFIELD, Kan. — The Moundbuilders fell 2-0 to MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) in their home opener at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.

After a scoreless first half against an MNU squad that began the season upsetting the No. 7 ranked team in the country, John Brown University, 1-0, the Builders had put themselves in a good position to make the Patriots nervous.

"We did well to hold our own. I was impressed with how we did for such a new squad after losing eight starters from last year." Said Head Women's Coach, Harry Simpson. "And that's the most impressive thing really, the comradery, the discipline was all fantastic. Lots to improve on and a great start to build from."

MNU broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Thayline Teixeira found the back of the net, recording her second goal of the season. Teixeira then assisted Andrea Martinez, who added MNU's second goal in the 70th minute.

The Moundbuilders struggled offensively, managing just one shot throughout the match, which came from Millie Hazzard in the second half.
Goalkeeper Hayden Clark did her best to keep Southwestern in the game, making four saves across the 90 minutes.

Southwestern, now 0-1 on the season, will look to regroup back at home on Saturday, Aug. 31against Mid-America Christian University at 7pm. MACU has yet to kickoff their season against LSU Shreveprot until Thursday, Aug. 29.
