WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College men's basketball team is set to take on Sterling College in a KCAC matchup. The Moundbuilders, with a 12-5 overall record and 6-5 in conference play, are coming off a 80-68 win over Friends University on Jan. 15. With the win, Southwestern aims to climb higher in the conference standings.
Southwestern is currently in the middle of the KCAC standings and will look to extend their winning streak as they continue their push for a higher seed. Sterling, sitting at 10-7 overall and 5-6 in conference play, enters this matchup with a record of 1-1 in their last two games.
Sterling has shown offensive potential throughout the season, averaging 78.5 points per game in KCAC play. Jayden Garrison leads the Warriors with 16.1 points per game, while Mooch Austin contributes 13.8 points and nearly five rebounds per contest. As a team, Sterling is shooting 42.3% from the field in conference play.
Southwestern has been an offensive juggernaut, averaging 81.0 points per game on 43.8% shooting. The Moundbuilders have been particularly efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 39.5% of their 3-point attempts. Trey Abasolo leads the team with 52.3% shooting from the field and 184 total points. Evan Barber, with 13.8 points and 60 assists on the season, has been another key contributor.
The Moundbuilders' strong rebounding efforts, averaging 46.2 boards per game, will be crucial against a tough Sterling squad. Zach Hidalgo has been a key force in the paint for Southwestern, while the team's overall defense has held opponents to an average of 69.6 points per game.
