WINFIELD, Kan. - The York Mens Basketball team (4-8) will also make the trip across the Flint Hills and through the farmland to take on your Moundbuilder mens basketball team (10-3) this Friday at 7:00 PM.
The Builders are coming off a solid tune-up game on Wednesday as they outlasted Spurgeon College 92-73. Junior Wyatt Bell hit the new year running with a hot shooting 29-point night followed by the usual double-double from fellow Junior Zach Hidalgo. The Builders look to have a better first half than they did last game and establish a defensive physical presence early against the Panthers.
If the Builders know anything about York University, it is their strong collection of talent and their innate ability to shot create. Senior Chris Thorpe is lighting up the stat-book this year so far, averaging 14.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
Junior Guard Chris Dixon is the Panthers leading scorer at 15.5 points per game and will look to continue his hot hand on Friday.
Defensively for the Panthers, its Thorpe again that leads the charge. Thorpe has already won one KCAC defensive player of the week award, and his 6'7, 205-pound athletic frame can be a challenge to navigate for the builders off the dribble.Â
Southwestern will do what they do best offensively, and that is moving the ball quickly and making hard, effective cuts that will put pressure on the rim and counteract York's athleticism. The Builders are undoubtedly looking to add to their hot first semester as they open KCAC play back up.Â
