Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Builders Run Away from Bluejays

WINFIELD, Kan. - The Southwestern College Mound-Builder basketball team gave the Tabor College men's basketball team way more than they can handle tonight as they routed the Blue Jays 110-53.

The Builders were led by senior guard Justin DeMaria, as he erupted for a 24-point, 8 rebound outing. The all-conference guard only put up 13 shots in the contest.

Following DeMaria was a monster double-double effort by Zach Hidalgo, as he tallied 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Behind him was yet another efficient performance by the former Tabor Blue-Jay Austin Hilton, as he put up 12 points on just 6 shots against his former team.

The Builders started off hot, coming out of the gate early with a 15-1 lead before Tabor's first timeout.

The foot did not come off the gas pedal the whole first half, as the Builders finished the half ahead 60-16, and hit 11 first half three pointers.

To start the second half, the Blue Jays found some grit, showing some prominence in the early minutes trying to cut into the large deficit. This was automatically put to a halt when the Mound-builders went on a run and hit 4 threes on 4 straight possessions.

The run was capped off by a highlight baseline drive and dunk by DeMaria before another Blue Jay timeout.

The rampant night finished with senior forward Jerrod Gillett scoring his first collegiate points on a tough bump and spin, left shoulder fade-away. It was yet another excellent showing from Builder faithful, as the crowd did not sit down the whole night and erupted when Gillett hit the dagger jump-shot.

The Builders are back in action at home again on Saturday, January 25th, as they take on Avila University at 3:00 PM.
