Southwestern Men Look to Extend Win Streak Against Evangel

WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College Moundbuilders will aim to extend their three-game winning streak when they travel to Evangel University on Jan 8th  in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup at AGfinancial Arena.

Southwestern (11-3, 5-3) is riding high after dominant wins over York and Spurgeon College, fueled by a balanced offense that averages 81.1 points per game. Junior guard Wyatt Bell leads the Moundbuilders with 204 points this season, averaging 18.5 points per game, while senior Trey Abasolo has been a consistent scoring threat, shooting 54.2% from the field.

A key contributor in recent games has been junior Austin Hilton, who showcased his efficiency by shooting 50% (5-of-10) against Spurgeon College and 66.7% (6-of-9) against York. Hilton's sharp shooting has bolstered Southwestern's offense, particularly from beyond the arc, where the team averages 11.1 three-pointers per game.

The Moundbuilders lead the nation in rebounding, averaging an impressive 47.2 boards per game. Senior Zach Hidalgo has been a dominant force on the glass, leading the country with an average of 12.7 rebounds per game. His efforts have helped Southwestern maintain a +18.2 rebounding margin, making them one of the toughest teams to contend with inside.

Evangel (5-9, 2-6) comes into the game looking to bounce back after a tough road loss to McPherson. Senior Garrett Davault has been the Valor's go-to scorer, averaging 15.1 points per game, while Josh Mason has added 12.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest. Evangel's ability to shoot 42.9% from the field and their defensive discipline, limiting opponents to 14.6 turnovers per game, could keep them competitive.The game tips off at 7:30 p.m.
