WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College men's soccer team will look to add another conference victory when it hosts Tabor College on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. The Builders enter the match at 8-4 overall and 5-2 in KCAC play, sitting fourth in the conference standings.
Southwestern is coming off a 1-0 win over Avila University, where sophomore forward Marcos Benavidez provided the lone goal early in the match. Benavidez's attacking pressure set the tone, while goalkeeper KJ Masso finished with four saves to secure the clean sheet. Freshman defender Luis Le Moignan also made a key goal-line clearance to help preserve the shutout and give the Builders another crucial conference win.
Tabor College enters the matchup at 5-5-1 overall and 3-4 in conference play, sitting sixth in the KCAC standings. The Bluejays have shown attacking strength this season, scoring 16 goals in conference play. In their most recent outing on Oct. 8, Tabor fell 2-1 to Kansas Wesleyan University despite a goal from Molelwa Abendelwa. Goalkeeper Benjamin Baeza played the full 90 minutes and recorded eight saves.
Tabor's offense is led by Martin Marinakis with four goals, followed by Pol Fernandez with three. The Bluejays will test a Southwestern defense that has recorded multiple clean sheets this season.
In last year's meeting between the two teams, Southwestern earned a 2-1 win over Tabor. Senior Jack Bagley-Etheridge scored both goals for the Builders, one in the opening 15 minutes and another in the final 10. Abendelwa scored Tabor's lone goal in the 28th minute. Southwestern finished that match with six shots on goal, while Tabor had two.
With momentum on their side, the Builders will look to extend their winning streak at home. Bagley-Etheridge and Benavidez will lead the attack, while Masso and the defensive back line aim to keep Tabor's offense contained once again.
