Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Southwestern Comes Up Short in 2–1 Loss to Tabor

WINFIELD, Kan. — Tabor College scored once in each half to defeat Southwestern 2–1 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer Saturday night at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.

The loss dropped Southwestern to 5-3-0 in KCAC play, while Tabor improved to 4-4-0 in the conference.

Tabor opened the scoring in the 14th minute, chipping a loose ball from outside the 18-yard box over the keeper to take an early 1-0 lead.

Southwestern equalized in the 24th minute when Jack Bagley-Etheridge converted a penalty kick after a foul in the box to make it 1-1.

Pol Fernández restored the lead for Tabor less than a minute into the second half, finishing from close range in the 46th minute for his second goal of the night and what proved to be the game-winner.

The Moundbuilders battled to stay within reach, highlighted by a goal-line clearance from defender Luis Le Moignan that kept the deficit from growing late in the first half. Southwestern continued to press forward but couldn't find the equalizer in the closing minutes.

The match was physical throughout, with both teams fighting for control in a tightly contested KCAC matchup. Despite an even second half and several late chances, it was an unlucky result for the Moundbuilders on their home pitch.

Tabor outshot Southwestern 12-6 overall and 5-3 in shots on goal. Marcos Benavidez and Bagley-Etheridge each recorded shots on frame, while goalkeeper KJ Masso made two saves in the effort.

Southwestern will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Oct. 15, when it travels to Springfield, Missouri, to face Evangel University at 7:30 p.m.
