Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tabor edges Southwestern in defensive battle, 1–0

WINFIELD, Kan. — Despite a strong second-half push and several late scoring opportunities, the Southwestern College women's soccer team came up short in a hard-fought 1–0 loss to Tabor College on Saturday evening at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.

The Moundbuilders (3-5-3, 3-2-3) kept pace with the Bluejays (8-3-2, 4-2-2) through most of the match, but a single first-half goal proved to be the difference. Tabor's Porsha Zweifel netted the lone score of the contest in the 25th minute, slipping a shot past Southwestern goalkeeper Hayden Clark for what would hold as the game-winner.

Southwestern's back line and midfield responded after the halftime break, limiting Tabor to just three shots in the second half while creating several offensive looks of their own. Millie Hazzard and Abigail Webb each tested Tabor keeper Neve Mulrooney, combining for three of Southwestern's four shots on goal. Adi Pemberton added another quality chance late, forcing a defensive save in the 83rd minute that kept the Moundbuilders within striking distance.

Clark anchored Southwestern's defense with three saves over 90 minutes, including a diving stop in the 87th minute to deny Tabor's Raegan King. The Builders outshot Tabor 5–3 in the second half and earned a corner kick in the 80th minute but were unable to find the equalizer before time expired.

Southwestern finished the evening with six total shots and four on goal, while Tabor recorded seven shots and four on target. Fouls were nearly even, with the Builders whistled for seven and the Bluejays for eight.

The Moundbuilders will look to bounce back quickly as they continue conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Springfield, Missouri, to face Evangel University (Mo.) in another key league matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
