MCPHERSON, Kan.— Southwestern College fell 4-0 to McPherson College in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at McPherson Stadium.
The loss dropped the Moundbuilders to 9-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play, while McPherson improved to 5-7-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the KCAC.
McPherson struck early, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes. Zane Sullivan put the Bulldogs on the board at the 7:14 mark, and Sergio Najera, assisted by Matt Mossman, made it 2-0 just two minutes later. In the second half, Nathan Van Wyck converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute, and Michael Ceyrolles added another goal in the 80th, assisted by Van Wyck.
Both teams attempted 13 shots. Southwestern placed five on goal, while McPherson finished with eight, converting four of them.
For the Moundbuilders, Jack led the attack with two shots on goal. Defender Adrian Gimenez and Luke Anderson each added one shot on target but were unable to capitalize.
Goalkeeper KJ Masso played all 90 minutes for Southwestern and made four saves. McPherson keeper Mauro Soria also went the distance, stopping five shots to earn the shutout.
Southwestern returns home to Richard L. Jantz Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 22, for a 7:30 p.m. conference matchup against Ottawa University.
