WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College showed stretches of strong play but couldn't sustain the momentum against one of the KCAC's top teams, as McPherson claimed a 25–15, 25–15, 25–20 victory Saturday morning at Stewart Fieldhouse.
The Moundbuilders (8–14, 2–6 KCAC) fought to stay in rhythm offensively and showed improvement as the match progressed, particularly in serve receive and transition play. After a slow start in the opening set, Southwestern settled into its attack and produced several extended rallies in the third, pushing McPherson late before falling 25–20.
Outside hitter Autumn Bennett led the Builders with 10 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, finding success with well-placed swings from both pins. Middle blocker Macey Collier added six kills and contributed key touches at the net, while setter Natalie Blaufuss guided the offense with 13 assists, eight digs, and a service ace. Libero Avery Riedel anchored the back row with five digs and steady passing that helped steady the team after a challenging first set. Right-side hitter Mikki Johnson tallied five kills and one block, and freshman Ashlyn Tag added an ace and solid defensive play in her court time.
As a team, Southwestern finished with 27 kills, five aces, and 36 digs, displaying balanced offensive effort but struggling to slow McPherson's potent attack. The Bulldogs hit .382 for the match behind the play of Brooke McHale, who notched 14 kills, while setter Roxana Varela Parra contributed 35 assists and four aces. Enya Fierens and Katie Warden added a combined 17 kills to pace McPherson's efficient offense.
Southwestern will look to regroup on Wednesday when it travels to Ottawa for its next KCAC matchup.
