Moundbuilders, Braves Battle to Scoreless Draw in KCAC Match

WINFIELD, Kan.— In a tightly contested Conference women's soccer matchup, Southwestern College and Ottawa University played to a 0-0 draw Wednesday evening at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.

The result moved Southwestern to 4-6-4 overall and 4-3-4 in KCAC play, while Ottawa stands at 4-6-4 overall and 3-4-3 in the league.

Both teams came out at a fast pace in the opening minutes, trading possession and attacking chances early. Southwestern held a slight 4-3 edge in shots at halftime, but neither side could find a breakthrough. The Moundbuilders' best chance of the first half came when defender Natalie Belanger's shot in the 13th minute struck the crossbar. Ottawa goalkeeper Makena Tapia recorded two saves before halftime to keep the game level, while Southwestern's Hayden Clark stopped two shots to maintain the scoreless tie.

The tempo remained high in the second half as both teams pushed for the decisive goal. Southwestern continued to apply pressure through forwards Millie Hazzard and Kaitlyn Walker. Hazzard tallied three shots, two on goal, while Walker added two shots on target. Despite eight total shots in the match, the Moundbuilders were unable to break through the Braves' defensive line.

Clark made four saves in goal for Southwestern, notching her fourth shutout of the season. Tapia matched the effort for Ottawa with five saves to earn the clean sheet for the visitors.

Southwestern finished with an 8-5 advantage in total shots and five shots on goal. Ottawa held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks and committed 10 fouls compared to Southwestern's two.

Southwestern will return to action Saturday for its final home match of the regular season, hosting Kansas Wesleyan University at 7:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. The game will also serve as Senior Night for the Moundbuilders, with a ceremony honoring the seniors taking place during halftime of the men's game.
