WINFIELD, Kan. — On a wet Homecoming night at Jantz Stadium, the Southwestern College women's soccer team battled through slippery conditions and relentless pressure but fell 1-0 to Kansas Wesleyan University in the final home match of the season.
The Moundbuilders (4-7-4, 4-4-4) kept pace with the Coyotes (10-4-2, 8-2-1) through a scoreless first half, with goalkeeper Hayden Clark standing tall in net. Clark recorded six saves before halftime as both teams fought to establish momentum amid the light, steady rain.
Early in the second half, Kansas Wesleyan broke through. At the 46:58 mark, Talia Walsh found the back of the net off an assist from Minaya Winchester, giving the Coyotes a 1-0 advantage, a score that would hold until the final whistle.
Southwestern generated offensive chances late, with Kaitlyn Walker and Millie Hazzard each putting two shots on goal, but Isabella Galvan's five saves preserved the shutout for the Coyotes.
Despite the narrow loss, the Moundbuilders continued to battle, subbing in fresh legs to maintain tempo on the slick field. Emotions ran high as the program honored its seniors, who took the field one last time in front of the home crowd.
Clark finished the match with eight saves, keeping Southwestern within striking distance throughout the contest. The Builders matched Kansas Wesleyan's energy in the closing minutes but couldn't find the equalizer before time expired.
Southwestern closes its regular season on the road next week, traveling to face the Bethany College Swedes on November 1 for a 5 p.m. kickoff in Lindsborg, Kansas.
