WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College men's basketball team opens its 2025–26 season Tuesday night when the Moundbuilders host Hesston College at Stewart Field House.
Southwestern is coming off an 18-11 overall record and a 12-10 conference finish last season. The Builders return several key contributors from that team, including senior forward Zach Hidalgo, who led the conference in rebounding with 12.8 boards per game. Senior guard Wyatt Bell (16.6 points, 4.0 rebounds) and junior guard Evan Barber (16.2 points, 3.2 assists) return as proven offensive threats. Senior Austin Hilton adds a reliable outside presence after connecting on 47 percent from 3-point range, the second-best mark in the conference.
The program also welcomes a group of five transfers to the 2025–26 roster. Junior forward Nigel John, who redshirted during the spring semester, joins the frontcourt alongside juniors Elijah Credle and Jace Breath. Seniors Jayden Bridgeman and Isaac Hoberecht add additional experience and depth to a roster that blends veteran leadership with fresh talent.
Hesston enters Tuesday's matchup 0-2 after losses to Ottawa University (80-60) and York University (87-60). The Larks are led by sixth-year head coach Matt Hiebert. On the court, Hesston is paced by Devin G. Lewis, who averages 11 points per game, along with Brennon Dodge and Trent Thompson, each contributing about nine points per contest. Thompson also leads the Larks on the boards with 7.5 rebounds per game.
While Hesston has early-season game experience, Southwestern looks to make a strong statement in its season opener, energized by returning stars and an influx of new talent in front of the home crowd at Stewart Field House.
