Southwestern Travels to Bethel for KCAC Matchup Saturday

Winfield, Kan. — Southwestern College will travel to North Newton on Saturday, Oct. 4, to take on Bethel College in a KCAC men's soccer matchup scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The Builders enter the contest with a 6-4-0 overall record and a 3-2-0 conference mark, coming off a midweek loss to nationally ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan. Southwestern is anchored by goalkeeper KJ Masso, who has tallied 48 saves this fall season, and will look to tighten up defensively while creating more attacking chances against the Threshers.

Bethel (2-8, 1-4 KCAC) has struggled to find consistency this season but gained confidence in a 1-0 win over Sterling on Wednesday, its first conference victory of the year. Midfielder Aden Braggs leads the attack with three goals, while Branden Balvanz has added one. Goalkeeper Kazimir Kromwijk has started every conference match, making 31 saves with a .608 save percentage.

Last season, Bethel earned a 2-0 victory over Southwestern in North Newton, a match where the Builders generated just six total shots compared to the Threshers' 14. Sophomore Gabriel Okita found the back of the net in the 21st minute for Bethel, while senior Lucas Pardo added an insurance goal in the 65th. Southwestern managed only two shots on target in that contest, forcing just two saves.

With a new, more aggressive offensive approach this season, the Builders are eager to reverse last year's result. A win Saturday would not only avenge last year's defeat but also help Southwestern keep pace in the competitive KCAC standings as October play heats up.
