Southwestern Sweeps Randall Behind Balanced Attack

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College put together one of its most complete performances of the season Thursday afternoon, sweeping Randall University 3–0 (25–19, 25–13, 25–23) in non-conference volleyball action inside Stewart Field House.

The Builders (9–16) used a balanced attack and efficient serving to control the match from start to finish. Southwestern finished with 36 kills on a .195 hitting percentage and recorded 12 service aces, while holding Randall (8–10) to just a .090 attack percentage and 22 total kills.

Opposite hitter Autumn Bennett led the way with nine kills and two blocks, finding success from both pins throughout the match. Outside hitter Mikki Johnson also tallied nine kills and hit .278, providing consistency and power in the front row. Freshman outside Ashlyn Tag contributed eight kills and added two digs, while middle hitter Macey Collier was nearly unstoppable, hitting .600 with six kills on 10 swings and adding a solo block.

Setter Natalie Blaufuss directed the offense with 18 assists, four service aces, and one kill, while fellow setter Reece Likes chipped in nine assists and an ace. The two-setter rotation kept Randall off balance and allowed multiple hitters to find rhythm early. Kalissa Ortega and Jaimeris Rivera also made key contributions at the service line, each adding two aces to the total.

Defensively, libero Avery Riedel anchored the back row with eight digs, while Ortega added five. Riley Valley posted three digs and handled serve receive duties effectively as Southwestern kept long rallies alive and limited second-chance opportunities for Randall. At the net, Haleigh Weber notched three block assists, and Collier added a solo block as the Builders out-blocked the Saints 4–0 in total blocks.

After a sluggish start that saw Southwestern trail 5–0 in the first set, the Builders regrouped and went on a 10–4 run to take control. The offense clicked from there, as Tag and Johnson combined for four kills to close out the opening frame, 25–19.

In the second set, Southwestern dominated from the first serve, hitting .444 as a team while serving six aces. Blaufuss and Ortega each found scoring runs behind the line, and Bennett powered three kills in a decisive 25–13 win.

Randall fought back in the third, trading points throughout, but the Builders' balanced attack and composure sealed the sweep with a 25–23 victory.

The win marked Southwestern's third sweep in October and ninth victory overall this season. The Builders will continue out their conference schedule at home next week when they celebrate Senior Night in Winfield.
