NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — Southwestern College edged Bethel College 1-0 on the road Saturday afternoon in a physical Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer matchup at Thresher Stadium. The victory moved the Builders to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in KCAC play, while Bethel fell to 2-9 and 1-5 in the conference.
The game's only goal came in the 41st minute when midfielder Connor Inlow scored his fifth goal of the season following a sustained attacking sequence. After Marcos Benavidez fired a shot that struck the post, Inlow pounced on the rebound and tapped it past Bethel goalkeeper Kazimir Kromwijk to give Southwestern the lead. The score rewarded the Builders' high pressure and quick reactions in the attacking third.
Goalkeeper KJ Masso anchored the Builders from start to finish, playing the full 90 minutes and recording six saves to secure the win. He narrowly outdueled Kromwijk, who finished with five saves in a tightly contested match where both sides tallied six shots on goal.
The Builders' back line, led by Adrian Gimenez, Nicola Antiglio and Luis Le Moignan, held firm throughout the contest, limiting Bethel's chances and preserving the result. Defender Aidan Wiggs made a strong impact off the bench, playing 76 minutes and providing steady defensive support after entering early in the first half.
The match was as intense as it was balanced, featuring 11 yellow cards and more than 40 total fouls. Southwestern drew six cautions, including one for the team bench, while Bethel received five.
With the win, Southwestern improved its conference standing and will return home Wednesday, Oct. 8, to host Avila University (Mo.) at 7:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
