Southwestern and Avila Battle to 2–2 Draw in Winfield

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College and Avila University played to a 2–2 draw Wednesday evening in a hard-fought Conference women's soccer matchup at Richard L. Jantz stadium.

Avila (4-3-5, 2-0-5) struck first just two minutes into the contest when Samantha Lasater netted her first goal of the season. Southwestern (3-4-4, 3-1-4) responded quickly in the sixth minute as Millie Hazzard equalized with her third goal of the season.

The Eagles regained the lead in the 60th minute when Lydia Mannino finished a feed from Lasater to make it 2–1. Southwestern once again leveled the score five minutes later when Abigail Webb converted off a setup from Natalie Belanger, her second goal of the season.

Southwestern outshot Avila 9–5 overall and held a 4–2 edge in corner kicks but couldn't find a go-ahead goal in the closing stretch. Avila goalkeeper Mia Kristensen made three saves to preserve the tie, while Southwestern keeper Hayden Clark went the full 90 minutes.

Both sides finished with 17 fouls for Avila and 10 for Southwestern. Avila's Isabel Javier received the lone yellow card of the match in the 50th minute.

The Moundbuilders will continue KCAC play this weekend as they look to build on their three-match unbeaten streak. Southwestern will return home for their eighth conference matchup against the Tabor College Blue Jays on October 11 at 5 p.m.
