Lady Builders Visit Cottey College for Nonconference Matchup

WINFIELD, Kan.— Southwestern College will look to continue its early-season momentum Wednesday, November 12th when the Lady Builders travel to Nevada, Missouri, to face Cottey College in a nonconference women's basketball matchup. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

Southwestern (2-1) has opened the 2025-26 campaign with wins over Manhattan Christian and Central Christian (Kan.) and a road loss to Peru State. The Lady Builders are averaging 64.0 points per game while allowing 62.7. They're shooting 38 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from 3-point range, led by senior guard Macey Pond, who paces the offense with 19.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per contest.

Junior forward Martha De La Rosa adds 10.0 points per game and is shooting 42.9 percent from beyond the arc, while Kennedy Ford contributes 9.0 points and 7.0 rebounds a night. Southwestern is holding opponents to 36.5 percent shooting but has been outrebounded slightly, 38.0 to 35.7 boards per game.

Cottey (0-6) enters still seeking its first win after a challenging nonconference stretch. The Comets are averaging 48.2 points per game and giving up 76.3. Freshman guard Gabrielle Burrus leads Cottey with 15.0 points per game and a 42.5-percent field-goal mark. Andrea Aragon adds 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, while Makenzie Haynes averages 5.7 points and 3.3 boards.

The teams have met twice in the past two seasons, with Cottey winning both contests,  64-51 in 2023 in Nevada and 65-52 last year in Winfield. Southwestern will aim for its first victory in the series and its third win of the young season.

Key factors for the Lady Builders include controlling the glass, limiting turnovers, and maintaining their perimeter accuracy. Southwestern averages 8.0 made 3-pointers per game compared with Cottey's 3.7, an edge that could be pivotal if maintained.

Following Wednesday's contest, Southwestern will return home to Stewart Field House for its conference opener November 15th.
