WINFIELD, Kan. — Under the direction of head coach Harry Simpson, the Southwestern College women's soccer team earned significant recognition from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), placing six players on the 2025 All-Conference Team following a competitive season that saw the Moundbuilders finish 5-8-4 overall and 5-4-4 in KCAC play.
Junior Millie Hazzard was named to the All-KCAC Second Team, while senior Kaitlyn Walker, senior Natalie Belanger, senior Hanna Culp, freshman Kaila Correa, and senior goalkeeper Hayden Clark each received honorable mention honors.
Hazzard Leads the Attack
Hazzard emerged as one of the KCAC's most dangerous midfielders, leading Southwestern with four goals and five assists for a team-best 13 total points across 16 appearances. She paced the Moundbuilders in both shots (29) and shots on goal (15), while registering a .138 shooting percentage.
Her standout performances included a career-high three assists in a 5–0 win over Sterling on Sept. 27 and a goal and assist in a 2–0 victory at Bethany on Nov. 1.
"Millie Hazzard gaining second team all-conference was fantastic," Simpson said. "She was a real danger that opposing teams knew about, and as a junior heading into her senior year, we can only hope she continues to grow even further."
Walker Closes Career in Style
Senior forward Kaitlyn Walker closed out her collegiate career with five goals and two assists in 17 starts. Known for her clinical finishing, Walker placed 12 of her 13 shots on target (.923) and tied for second on the team in total points (12). Her game-winning goal in the 1–0 win at Bethel on Oct. 4 helped fuel Southwestern's midseason surge.
Belanger and Culp Anchor the Defense
Senior defenders Natalie Belanger and Hanna Culp anchored a back line that produced six shutouts and limited opponents to 1.29 goals per game. Belanger started all 17 matches, contributing two goals and an assist, while Culp added one goal, the decisive strike in a 2–1 win at McPherson on Oct. 18, and served as a vocal leader across nearly 1,500 minutes of play.
Correa Makes Immediate Impact
Freshman Kaila Correa made an impressive debut in her first season, starting all 11 matches she appeared in and recording an assist in the Sterling win. Despite missing part of the season due to injury, her poise and defensive awareness earned her conference recognition.
"As a freshman, Kaila's composure stood out," Simpson said. "It was really well deserved for her to be honored, even after missing time through injury. She's a great addition to our squad, and we're excited for her future, along with several other young players who showed promise this year."
Clark Shines in Goal
Senior Hayden Clark provided consistency and leadership in goal, starting all 17 matches and logging 1,530 minutes. She finished with 95 saves and an .812 save percentage, recording four shutouts. Her 17-save effort against Science and Arts on Sept. 10 was one of the best goalkeeping displays in the KCAC this season.
Building a Lasting Culture
Coach Simpson praised not only the individual honorees but also the team's collective progress and identity.
"This year has had some great moments," Simpson said. "I'm very proud of the entire squad, not only for results and performances, but also for character and culture. We're extremely proud of these girls for being recognized by the conference and only wish that more valuable members of the squad could have this honor.
"Honorable mentions as seniors, Hayden Clark, Natalie Belanger, Hanna Culp, and Kaitlyn Walker, have played a huge part in the program's development as upperclassmen. They will leave behind a culture that we hope lasts for a long time."
Southwestern's 2025 season showcased balance across the roster, with 10 players contributing at least one goal or assist. The team scored 17 goals on 123 shots (.138) and converted both of its penalty kick opportunities while maintaining a strong defensive presence throughout the campaign.
