Builders Travel to Leavenworth for Bissell Division Duel

WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern looks to get back in the win column after a 53-40 loss to McPherson College, as the Moundbuilders travel to Leavenworth to take on Saint Mary (Kan.). Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium.

Southwestern (6-3) (1-2 KCAC) enters the clash tied for fourth place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Bissell Division alongside Saint Mary.

Despite losses in the last two weeks of KCAC play, the Builders' offense has continued to light up the scoreboard in a nationally renowned fashion. The Moundbuilders are currently ranked as the third-best offensive unit in the NAIA by the metrics of total points (51) and yards per game (521). SC is also tied for first overall in the NAIA in passing touchdowns with 35. Quarterback Jamie Odom will look to continue his outstanding relationship with star wide receiver Matthew Holthusen, who is averaging 115 receiving yards per game this season. The Builders' offense will also look to use wide receiver Joe Smyth out of the backfield and on special teams. Smyth was recently named the KCAC special teams player of the week after his four-touchdown performance against McPherson.

Saint Mary (3-6) (1-2 KCAC) enters the matchup hot after a thrilling 34-27 win over Sterling College in week 10. The Spires are led by Senior quarterback Erick Covington and wide receiver Michael Gazzana. Covington has racked up 1,410 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions during the 2025 campaign. Gazzana has posted 50 receptions for 825 yards and 10 scores this season, a team high by nearly 600 yards.

The matchup has favored Southwestern over the last 10 seasons (8-2), with the Builders winning the previous contest by 41 points, 69-28.
