Moundbuilders Come Up Short Against 10th Ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College pushed No. 10 Oklahoma Wesleyan for 40 minutes but came up short in an 81-76 loss Wednesday night, as the Eagles extended their win streak to nine games and remained unbeaten in KCAC play.

The Moundbuilders (6-4, 2-4 KCAC) dictated the early tempo, leading for 11 of the first 12 minutes before Oklahoma Wesleyan surged ahead 30-28 at the 7:53 mark. The Eagles (10-1, 6-0 KCAC) never trailed again, riding a lights-out shooting performance in the opening half. OKWU buried 7 of 11 attempts from beyond the arc and carried a 42-35 lead into halftime.

Oklahoma Wesleyan opened the second half on a 10-2 run to build its largest lead of the night at 52-37 with 17:20 to play. Southwestern responded with its best stretch of the game — a 15-4 run that cut the deficit to 56-52 with 13:08 remaining — but each push was met with an Eagle answer. OKWU regained control and pushed its lead back to double digits at 72-62 with six minutes left, holding off a final Moundbuilder surge in the closing minutes.

The Eagles shot 47.7% from the field and 45.5% from deep (10 of 22), overcoming a 32-24 rebounding disadvantage by scoring 36 points in the paint and capitalizing on 16 Southwestern turnovers for 15 points.

Southwestern countered with an efficient night of its own, shooting 50% from the floor and 47.4% from three. Wyatt Bell led the Builders with 17 points and two assists. Evan Barber and Nigel John each added 13, with John securing a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds. Austin Hilton provided a spark off the bench with 12 of Southwestern's 17 bench points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Southwestern returns to action Saturday, Dec. 13, hosting Bethany College at 3 p.m. inside Stewart Field House in its final conference matchup of 2025.
