WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College returns home Saturday, Dec. 13, to host Bethany College with tipoff set for 3 p.m. The Moundbuilders enter the contest 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, while the Swedes are 4-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.
Southwestern is coming off an 81-76 loss at No. 10 Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday night. The Moundbuilders controlled the early tempo, leading for much of the first 12 minutes before the Eagles moved in front late in the first half and took a 42-35 lead into intermission. Oklahoma Wesleyan opened the second half with a 10-2 run to build its largest lead of the game, but Southwestern answered with a surge that trimmed the deficit to four before the Eagles rebuilt the cushion and held on down the stretch.
Wyatt Bell leads Southwestern at 20.0 points per game while adding 3.4 assists per contest. Evan Barber averages 15.3 points and 3.3 assists, and Zach Hidalgo anchors the Moundbuilders on the glass at 9.2 rebounds per game while contributing 7.0 points.
Bethany is led by head coach Terrence Murphy in his first full season at the helm. Keddric Mays II leads the Swedes in assists at 3.3 per game, shoots 45.2 percent from the field and paces the team with 6.4 rebounds per contest. Curtis Stovall III adds 11.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Southwestern swept the season series a year ago, winning 74-69 on the road and 86-69 at home, and the Moundbuilders will look to continue a run of success that has seen them come out on top in the series over each of the past four seasons.
