TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. — Southwestern College will look to build momentum away from home when the Moundbuilders face Florida College on Saturday at noon Eastern (11 a.m. CT) in Conn Gymnasium.
Southwestern enters the nonconference matchup with a 7-4 overall record and a 3-4 mark in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Moundbuilders are coming off a 75-60 win over Bethany College last Saturday, shooting 48.5 percent from the field while controlling the glass with 43 rebounds. Wyatt Bell led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Nigel John added 19 points, and Austin Hilton chipped in 15 points off the bench as Southwestern pulled away in the second half.
Florida College, a member of the Continental Athletic Conference, is 4-10 on the season and coming off a 75-73 win over Warner University (Fla.) last Friday. Malik Beauford paced the Falcons with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Aiden Wall scored 18 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Florida College averages 79.1 points per game, shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from 3-point range. The Falcons average 32 rebounds per contest but allow 40.
The teams last met in November of the 2022-23 season, when Southwestern, the eventual KCAC tournament champion, earned a 90-78 victory over Florida College at the Ernie Stevens Jr. Classic in Lawrence, Kan.
The Moundbuilders will be facing unfamiliar surroundings in Conn Gymnasium and will look to close out their Florida trip with a win.
