WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College returns to Stewart Field House on Saturday, Decemeber 6th looking to regroup in KCAC play as the Lady Builders host Avila University in a conference matchup set for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
Southwestern (4-5, 0-4) continues to search for its breakthrough in league play, but the Builders have shown encouraging stretches behind one of the conference's top scorers in senior guard Macey Pond. Pond enters the weekend averaging 16.8 points and 8.4 rebounds, scoring in double figures in every game this season while guiding a Southwestern offense that averages 62.0 points per game.
Freshman guard Breanna Goad adds 10.0 points per game while shooting 36.7 percent from 3-point range, and Junior forward Kennedy Ford contributes 9.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Despite their winless start in conference competition, the Builders shoot 39.2 percent from the field and continue to generate consistent interior production, averaging 33.0 rebounds per game.
Southwestern will look to improve its turnover margin, the Builders average 14.9 turnovers compared with opponents' 12.1, and aim to slow a highly efficient Avila offense.
Avila (5-4, 2-2) arrives led by standout forward Madilyn Melton, who ranks among the conference's top scorers at 19.0 points per game on 62.5 percent shooting. In conference play, Melton has increased her output to 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Guards Marlie Wright (14.9 ppg) and Kathleen Stanley (10.6 ppg) round out a balanced Golden Eagles attack that averages 69.2 points per game and shoots 42.1 percent overall.
Avila leads the all-time series 10-4, but Southwestern claimed the most recent meeting with a 56-48 home victory on Jan. 25, 2025, snapping a four-game skid against the Eagles. The Builders are 3-4 all time at home in the series and have won two of the last three matchups at Stewart Field House.
Saturday's game offers Southwestern an opportunity to secure its first conference win and build momentum as the season moves into the December stretch.
