WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College men's basketball team delivered a strong offensive performance, outlasting Evangel University 91-83 on Tuesday night at Stewart Field House.
Southwestern came out firing, building a 49-37 lead at halftime behind a balanced scoring effort. Wyatt Bell was a key factor, putting up 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting. The Moundbuilders' three-point shooting proved crucial, as they hit 10-of-23 from beyond the arc in the first half.
Despite outscoring Southwestern 46-42 in the second half, Evangel couldn't overcome the deficit. Manrique Alvarado led Evangel with 18 points, while Garrett Davault added 13. Evangel shot efficiently but struggled from deep in the second half, going just 2-of-10 from three-point range.
Trey Abasolo played a key role for the Moundbuilders, finishing with 19 points and seven assists. Justin DeMaria provided a spark off the bench with 17 points, knocking down five three-pointers. Southwestern's ability to break the defense down and find open looks proved to be too much for the Valor.Â
