Moundbuilders Travel to Saint Mary for Final Conference Game

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College's Moundbuilders will wrap up their regular season with a crucial conference matchup against the Saint Mary Spires on Saturday, February 22, at 4:00 p.m.

The Moundbuilders (18-9, 12-9 KCAC) come into the game with a solid record but are seeking a bounce-back after a tough 78-77 loss to Friends University on Wednesday. Southwestern has been a potent offensive force this season, averaging 80.1 points per game and shooting 38.0% from beyond the arc. Junior Wyatt Bell leads the charge, averaging 17.2 points per game and shooting 45.2% from the field. Senior guard Trey Abasolo, who has averaged 10.9 points per game, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists this season.

Saint Mary (17-9, 14-6 KCAC) will look to capitalize on their home court advantage after a strong season. The Spires are coming off a 77-68 victory over Kansas Wesleyan and boast standout performances from Jordan Brown (15.7 ppg) and Damare Smith (14.3 ppg). Saint Mary has been solid defensively, allowing just 69.8 points per game, but they'll need to contain Southwestern's high-scoring offense to secure the win.

The history between these two teams has been competitive. Earlier this season, Southwestern fell to Saint Mary at home, 81-72, and will be eager to even the score. With both teams fighting for positioning in the conference standings, expect a closely contested game.

Southwestern's strong rebounding game, led by Zach Hidalgo and his 12.8 boards per game, will be a key factor against Saint Mary's aggressive play. The Moundbuilders are also ranked higher in assist numbers (13.2 per game), which could give them an edge in creating scoring opportunities.

Both teams have something to prove in this season finale, and it's sure to be a thrilling contest in Leavenworth.
