Southwestern’s Season Ends in KCAC Quarterfinals

LEAVENWORTH, Kan.  — Southwestern College's postseason run came to an end as the No. 6-seed Moundbuilders fell to No. 3-seed Saint Mary Spires 86-78 in the KCAC Tournament quarterfinals at Ryan Sports Center.

The Moundbuilders (18-11) battled back from an early 16-point deficit but could not complete the comeback against the Spires (20-9), who advanced to the KCAC semifinals.

Wyatt Bell led Southwestern with 18 points, seven assists, and three rebounds, while Justin Demaria added 16 points and nine boards.

The Builders shot 44.4% from the field (28-of-63) and 41.4% from three-point range (12-of-29), with Austin Hilton providing a lift off the bench with four three-pointers and 12 points.

Saint Mary's Jordan Brown was the difference-maker, scoring a game-high 29 points while shooting 7-of-9 from beyond the arc. The Spires shot an efficient 50% from the floor and controlled the tempo down the stretch to hold off Southwestern's second-half push.

Zach Hidalgo delivered a strong performance in the paint for the Builders, recording a double-double with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks.

Trey Abasolo chipped in 13 points and six rebounds.

With the loss, Southwestern's season comes to a close after finishing sixth in the KCAC regular season and earning a KCAC postseason berth.
