WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College Builders will face the Cottey College Comets in a crucial conference matchup on Wednesday, March 12, at 6:00 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
The Builders (1-2, 1-2) are coming off a 19-13 road win over Graceland on March 8, where quarterback Kennedi Hayes threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Hayes leads Southwestern's offense with 486 passing yards and six touchdowns this season. Olivia Manfre has been a standout target, hauling in 13 catches for 175 yards and two scores. Mary Jones has also been productive with 171 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Southwestern's defense is anchored by Teagan Smith, who leads the team with 15 total tackles and three tackles for loss. Vivianna Solis and Manfre have both recorded interceptions this season.
Cottey College (1-3, 1-3) is coming off a 35-0 loss to Kansas Wesleyan. The Comets are led by quarterback Amya Corulla, who has thrown for 150 yards and one touchdown while also leading the team with 178 rushing yards and a score. Alina Jeanbaptiste has been Cottey's top receiver with 94 yards on 13 catches. Defensively, Laurencia Botts leads the team with 22 tackles and two pass breakups.
Southwestern and Cottey have met twice in program history, with each team winning one matchup. The Builders earned a 32-25 road victory over the Comets on Feb. 21, 2024, behind a strong offensive performance. However, Cottey evened the series with a 6-0 defensive battle on April 3, 2024, at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Southwestern will aim to reclaim the series edge and secure a critical conference win at home.
