FULTON, Mo. – Southwestern College's Builder flag football team defeated Campbellsville University (3-2, 0-1) 12-8 in a thrilling conference matchup on March 14, 2025. The victory marked Southwestern's third consecutive win.
The game was delayed due to weather, but the Builders (3-2, 3-2) managed to stay focused and finish strong. Southwestern scored both of their touchdowns in the second and third quarters. Quarterback Kennedi Hayes was instrumental in the victory, contributing a rushing touchdown (64 yards) and passing for another to Teagan Smith (22 yards).
Defensive standouts for Southwestern included Vivianna Solis, who recorded an interception and six tackles, and Kaila Yniguez, who also tallied six tackles. The Builders' defense stifled Campbellsville's offense, limiting them to just one touchdown in the final quarter.
Despite a strong effort from Campbellsville's K. Talkington, who passed for 152 yards, the Tigers' offense struggled to convert in critical moments, going 1-for-11 on third downs. The game's tight score was a testament to Southwestern's resilience, especially following the weather delay.
The Builders controlled the rushing game, gaining 82 yards on 15 carries, while Campbellsville finished with 64 yards on 14 attempts. Hayes led the team in rushing with 64 yards, helping Southwestern maintain possession and set up key drives.
