WINFIELD, Kan. — In a game defined by high winds and defensive challenges, Southwestern College fell to Kansas Wesleyan 13-5 at Broadway Sports Complex. The loss drops the Moundbuilders to 3-13 on the season.
Southwestern got off to a promising start, plating a run in the first inning to take an early lead. However, the offense stalled for several innings as the Coyotes responded with a steady stream of runs in the middle frames. The Builders found a spark in the eighth, scoring three runs, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
The windy conditions played a major role throughout the game, with wind gusts exceeding 50 miles per hour. Outfielders struggled to track fly balls, and infielders battled shifting gusts on routine throws, contributing to multiple defensive miscues.
Despite the loss, Jj. Cardinal provided a highlight for Southwestern with a home run, while Raisean Dorsey delivered a three-run shot late in the game. On the mound, Micah Cleveland took the loss, but the Builders' bullpen worked to limit the damage in the later innings.
Southwestern will look to bounce back as they finish the the three game series against Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday March 15. First pitch is at 1 and 3 PM.
