WINFIELD, Kan. — Despite a late rally from Southwestern College, Oklahoma Wesleyan secured a 9-7 victory Thursday afternoon in a back-and-forth contest at Broadway Sports Complex.
Oklahoma Wesleyan (20-8, 10-2 KCAC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and added runs in four of the first six frames. D. Tune led the charge, finishing 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a triple, while R. Rector added two hits and a run scored.
Southwestern (6-10, 0-6 KCAC) responded with a five-run fourth inning, cutting a seven-run deficit to two. T. Henry sparked the rally with an RBI single, followed by a wild pitch that allowed another run to cross. M. Reinert capped the inning with a two-run double to bring the Moundbuilders within striking distance.
In the fifth, L. Serrano tripled home L. Hardman before F. Howard's RBI groundout made it an 8-7 game. However, Oklahoma Wesleyan tacked on an insurance run in the sixth on A. Olivas' RBI groundout.
On the mound, Oklahoma Wesleyan's T. Stanton (W, 4-1) earned the win, allowing five runs on 12 hits over four innings. M. Fleet and G. Simpson combined for three scoreless innings to close out the victory.
Southwestern's F. Campbell (L, 2-3) was tagged for seven runs (six earned) over four innings, while M. Miller pitched three innings in relief, allowing two runs.
The Moundbuilders out-hit the Eagles 15-11 but left six runners stranded. Henry, Garza, and Reinert each tallied multi-hit games for Southwestern.
