WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern College's Builder Flag Football team dominated in their final home conference game of the season, securing a 19-7 victory over the University of Saint Mary Spires (3-5, 1-5) on Saturday at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
The game kicked off at 1:00 p.m. and was highlighted by a special Senior Day celebration for Teagan Smith. Southwestern (5-4, 5-4) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter after Olivia Manfre caught a 12-yard pass from quarterback Kennedi Hayes. The extra point by Devina Lytle gave the Builders a solid advantage.
In the second quarter, Southwestern extended their lead to 13-0 with a 54-yard touchdown pass from Hayes to Vivianna Solis. The extra point attempt was no good, but the Builders maintained control heading into halftime.
The Builders came out strong in the second half, scoring and extending their lead to 19-0. However, the Spires fought back in the fourth quarter when Trinity Scott returned an interception for a touchdown, making it 19-7. Despite the late rally, Southwestern held on to secure the 19-7 win.
Hayes led the Builders with 191 passing yards, including three touchdown passes to Manfre, Solis, and Teagan Smith. Southwestern's defense stifled the Spires' offense, limiting them to just 64 total yards and forcing two interceptions.
The victory secured Southwestern's dominance in their final home game of the season, sending off their seniors, including Teagan Smith, with a memorable win. Builders will look to continue from this momentum as they head to North Newton, Kansas to play against Bethel College Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
