Southwestern College Names Josh Burt as New Head Women's Basketball Coach

WINFIELD, Kan. – Athletic Director, Matt O'Brien and the Southwestern College athletic department is excited to announce the hiring of Josh Burt as the new head coach of the Moundbuilders women's basketball program.

Burt joins Southwestern with a strong background in collegiate coaching, most recently serving as an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, an NCAA Division II program. His experience also includes coaching stints at Newman University, Bethel College, and with the Ohlde Elite Women's Club Program (AAU), where he played a pivotal role in recruiting and developing high-caliber talent.

"Josh is a tremendous fit for Southwestern College and the Winfield community," said Athletic Director O'Brien. "His commitment to player development, recruiting, and building a strong team culture aligns perfectly with our vision for the women's basketball program. We are excited about the future under his leadership and confident he will continue to elevate our program both on and off the court."

During his time at Nebraska-Kearney, Burt was instrumental in all recruiting aspects, skill development, and in-game strategies, helping lead the program to multiple MIAA Conference Tournament appearances. At Newman University, he helped guide the program to its first-ever MIAA conference tournament berth. His leadership at Bethel College contributed to historic success, including the program's first national tournament appearance in 2021.

Burt brings a proven track record of success, player development, and program-building experience to the Moundbuilders. His ability to recruit and develop talent at all levels will be key in leading the Southwestern women's basketball program.
