WICHITA, Kan. — Southwestern College softball dropped both games of a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Friends University on Tuesday at the Two Rivers Complex.
In Game 1, the Moundbuilders fell 11-1 in five innings after Friends erupted for eight runs in the opening frame. Southwestern's lone run came in the fourth inning when junior Jolie Boyd was hit by a pitch and later scored on a two-out RBI single from senior Nina Celestino. Celestino's hit was the team's only one of the game. Sophomore pitcher Emma Willesden took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits over four innings of work.
Game 2 was more competitive as the Builders put together a two-run fifth inning before falling 10-2 in six. Junior Lainey Hardman delivered the highlight of the day with a two-run triple to right-center field, bringing home freshman Emily Garza and freshman Eva Navrat. Garza also singled and scored a run. Freshman Morgan Shaw started in the circle and was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs on 10 hits in four innings. Sophomore Faith Campbell entered in relief and allowed four runs in the fifth.
Southwestern dropped to 9-25 overall and 1-21 in KCAC play. The Moundbuilders will look to bounce back in their next conference matchup.
