Midland Defeats Southwestern 33-6 in Flag Football Matchup

FREMONT, Neb. – The Southwestern College Builders (6-5, 6-5) were handed a 33-6 loss by the Midland University Warriors (6-6, 3-4) in a conference flag football matchup at Heedum Field. The loss snapped the Builders' two-game win streak.

Midland opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Angel Ioane Kaio to Allaya Livingston. Southwestern responded with a touchdown of its own on a 65-yard strike from quarterback Kennedi Hayes to Teagan Smith, cutting the Warriors' lead to 7-6.

However, Midland extended its advantage in the second quarter with another touchdown from Kaio to Angel Ioane Kaio, making it 13-6 at halftime. The Warriors dominated the second half, adding three more touchdowns, including a 30-yard pass from Kaio to Livingston, to secure the win.

Southwestern's offense struggled throughout, managing just 157 total yards. Hayes completed 15 of 30 passes for 128 yards and one touchdown, with Teagan Smith catching four passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Hayes led the way with 28 yards rushing on eight attempts.

Midland, led by the stellar play of Kaio, outgained Southwestern 309 to 157 yards. Kaio finished the game with 292 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Livingston was her primary target, hauling in five passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the loss, the Builders had some bright moments, including Smith's big touchdown reception and a key interception by Olivia Manfre. The defense was led by Teagan Smith's six tackles and a solid effort from the secondary, which recorded four pass breakups.

Southwestern will look to bounce back next week as they continue on the road for their last regular season conference game. Builders will travel to Baldwin City, Kansas to take on Baker University Wildcats, Thursday April 10th at 6:00 PM.
