Southwestern's Offense Shines Despite 12-6 Loss to Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  – The Southwestern College Moundbuilders showcased a strong offensive performance with 13 hits and multiple scoring innings, but a mid-game surge from Avila University (17-20, 14-14) led to a 12-6 defeat on Tuesday afternoon in Kansas City.

The Moundbuilders (9-23, 4-20) demonstrated resilience throughout the contest, highlighted by a three-run fourth inning that briefly tied the game and kept them competitive into the later innings.

Senior center fielder Luca Dincola continued his impressive form at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with three singles. Junior infielder  J.J. Cardinal contributed two hits, scored twice, and drove in a run. Junior outfielder Marco Ayala  added two doubles and an RBI, while senior Andrew Brautman delivered a key two-run single to ignite the fourth-inning rally.

Southwestern utilized a collective effort on the mound, employing seven pitchers throughout the afternoon. Despite limiting Avila to just six hits, the Eagles capitalized on their opportunities, notably with a six-run sixth inning that shifted the game's momentum.

Jace Horn pinch-hit double and Louis De La Cueva RBI groundout made significant contributions aiding the Builders' efforts in the later innings.

In the ninth inning, the Moundbuilders loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the on-deck circle, showing their fight and determination. Ultimately, timely hitting and disciplined plate appearances allowed Avila to secure the victory.

Southwestern returns to the diamond on Friday April 11th as they travel to Evangel College. First pitch is schduled for 2:30 PM.
