WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College dropped its home opener Tuesday evening, falling 3-1 to Oklahoma Panhandle State at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
The Aggies struck first in the 6th minute, but the Moundbuilders answered late in the first half when junior right winger Millie Hazzard buried an equalizer in the 42nd minute her first goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, Oklahoma Panhandle regained the lead and carried a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Despite a determined push in the second half, Southwestern was unable to break through. The Aggies sealed the win with a goal in the final seconds of regulation.
Hazzard led the Moundbuilders with four shots, three on target, and her goal energized the home crowd. Defensively, freshman Kaila Correa anchored the back line, logging strong minutes at left back and providing key stops before leaving late in the match.
Southwestern (0-1) returns home Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. to host Southwestern Christian University.
