WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College will try to build on a historic win when it hosts York University (Neb.) on Saturday night at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Builders (1-0 KCAC) are coming off a 2-1 victory at Friends University on Sept. 17, their first win over the Falcons in program history. Sophomore forward Marcos Benavidez scored twice to hand Friends its first loss of the season.
With a well-structured lineup and improved form, Southwestern is in a stronger position to face York after falling 1-0 to the Panthers last season. That match was decided on a second-half penalty kick by Jorge Boto. Southwestern managed just one shot on goal, while York put four shots on target and forced three saves.
York (0-0 KCAC) opens its conference schedule in Winfield after a 3-1 preseason loss to Concordia University. The Panthers were led in scoring during the preseason by Asaph Achero, Kaden Ogle and Tim Schafer, who each scored two goals. Goalkeeper Jamie Watt started all five games, logging 426 minutes and recording 15 saves.
Southwestern enters Saturday's contest fired up and ready for the challenge under the lights in Winfield.
