OTTAWA, Kan. — Southwestern quarterback Jamie Odom threw for 270 yards, rushed for 74 more, and tallied six total touchdowns as the No. 20-ranked Moundbuilders defeated Ottawa 61-10 on Saturday in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference cross-divisional matchup.
Southwestern started the game hot with Odom breaking free for a 34-yard touchdown to put the Moundbuilders up 7-0 after just 2 minutes of play. The Braves answered with a touchdown as Anthony Powell plunged his way into the endzone from 4 yards out to cap off an eight-play 61-yard scoring drive.
Shortly after the score was knotted at 7, Southwestern would seize control, tallying 24 unanswered points. Odom connected with Joe Smyth for a 35-yard touchdown, then found Caquoy Patterson on an 18-yard dime to swing the momentum in favor of the Moundbuilders. Following an Odom rushing score, Preston Fansher would tally on his first field goal of the season with a 40-yard kick to extend the lead to 31-7.
The Braves would tack on a field goal before the end of the 1st half, and those would be the last points Southwestern would surrender.
The Moundbuilder offense continued to move the chains in the 2nd half. Odom found Matthew Holthusen on a 25-yard strike to open up the scoring in the 3rd quarter, and Southwestern's offense would rattle off another 4 straight scores to match its season high with 61 points.
Southwestern (3-1) returns to action next Saturday when Bethany College (Kan.) travels to Winfield. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
