WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern dropped a 1-0 decision to York on Saturday in a hard-fought Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match. Despite outshooting the Panthers and creating multiple chances, the Builders could not finish their opportunities.
The game's lone goal came in the 60th minute. Franco Pablot sent a cross into the box that found Lucas Moraes, who converted to give York the lead. The Panthers held on the rest of the way behind goalkeeper Jamie Watt, who played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves.
Southwestern generated chances from attacking players Connor Inlow, Jack Bagley-Etheridge and Adrian Gimenez. Substitutes Zach Hammar and Devon Ambrosio also created pressure, with Ambrosio taking a shot shortly after entering. Midfielder KJ Masso went the full 90 minutes as the Builders pushed forward.
The match featured seven yellow cards in a physical contest. Despite strong substitutions and stretches of pressure, Southwestern was unable to find an equalizer.
With the loss, Southwestern fell to 1-1 in conference play. York improved to 1-0 in the KCAC with its first conference win.
Southwestern returns home Wednesday, Sept. 24, to host the University of Saint Mary at 7:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
