Builders Set for Home Matchup with Saint Mary

WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College men's soccer team hosts the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) on Wednesday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m. inside Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Both teams are looking to climb the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference standings early in the season, with the Builders entering at 1-1 in conference play and the Spires at 0-1-1.

Southwestern is coming off a narrow 1-0 loss at York University. While the result didn't fall their way, the Builders showed flashes of potential and will aim to build on that performance as the season progresses.

Saint Mary heads to Winfield after a 3-0 setback against Tabor College. The Spires' attack is led by Daniel Castro and Isha Hughan, who have each scored three goals on the year. Hughan has also served as the primary goalkeeper, recording over 450 minutes in net with 26 saves.

Last season, the Spires earned a 2-0 win over Southwestern in a game that was statistically tight. Saint Mary held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal, but capitalized on key moments. A goal in the 50th minute broke the deadlock, and a penalty kick in the 70th — following a red card that left the Builders a man down for the final 20 minutes — secured the victory.

With both squads hungry for a conference win, Wednesday's contest is set to be a pivotal early-season matchup. The Builders will look to defend their home field and push their KCAC record above .500 under the lights at Jantz Stadium.
