WINFIELD, Kan
. — Southwestern College erupted for six first-half goals and beat Saint Mary 6-2 on Wednesday night in KCAC play.
Marcos Benavidez,
Bernabe Lopez and Jack Bagley-Etheridg each scored twice as the Moundbuilders improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.
Southwestern will host Sterling on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Sterling (0-3 KCAC) is still searching for its first league win, with Ruben Guzman scoring both of the Warriors' conference goals this season.
Last fall, Southwestern defeated Sterling 2-0, with now-senior Connor Inlow scoring both goals in the first half. The Moundbuilders had six shots on goal to Sterling's five, capitalizing on their opportunities while the defense held firm for a clean sheet.
Excitement is building for Saturday's matchup at Jantz Stadium, where Southwestern will try to carry momentum from its midweek win into another conference test. Sterling will look to tighten its defense and find a finishing touch as it chases its first KCAC victory.
