Southwestern Eyes Fourth Straight Win, On the Road to Hesston in Non-Conference Tilt

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern women's volleyball looks to keep its winning streak rolling Tuesday night when the Moundbuilders travel to Hesston College for a non-conference matchup. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Yost Center.

The Moundbuilders (4-8) enter the week riding a wave of momentum after three straight victories, including back-to-back sweeps of Hesston followed by a four-set win over Crowley's Ridge. Southwestern has rebounded from a 1-8 start to notch four wins in its last five matches, signaling a turnaround in early-season form.

Freshman outside hitter Mikki Johnson has powered the attack, averaging nearly 2.6 kills per set while adding production on the defensive end. Junior setter Natalie Blaufuss has been steady in running the offense, surpassing 170 assists on the year, while senior libero Avery Riedel continues to anchor the defense with more than 140 digs. The Builders are averaging just over 10 kills per set and nearly two service aces per set, numbers that have steadily climbed during their winning streak.

Hesston (0-4-1) is still searching for its first win of the season. The Larks have struggled offensively, averaging just over six kills per set and hitting in the negative through five matches. Kennedie Esparza leads the team with 23 kills, while Layla Romero has chipped in 22. Freshman setter Se'Maiya Farrow has paced Hesston's passing with 42 assists, but the team has been plagued by errors that have limited scoring opportunities.

Southwestern has won the first two meetings between the programs this season, sweeping the Larks in both contests earlier this month. The Builders will look to make it three straight over Hesston while keeping their current win streak alive, while the Larks will aim to defend their home court and pick up their first victory of the year.
