Lady Builders visit Tabor as they continue KCAC play

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College will try to break through in Conference play Wednesday, Jan 21, when the Lady Builders visit Tabor for a 5 p.m. tip at Tabor College Gymnasium in Hillsboro, Kan.

Southwestern enters 4-14 overall and 0-12 in the KCAC after dropping an 82-56 decision to Sterling on Saturday. The Lady Builders have leaned on the 3-point shot, averaging 8.0 made 3s per game, but they've been unable to consistently get stops, being outscored 77.9-60.9 per game on the season.

Macey Pond has carried much of the offensive load for Southwestern, averaging 15.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Breanna Goad adds 11.3 points and is the team's top perimeter threat with 45 3-pointers, while Kennedy Ford is scoring 10.9 points a night and pulling down 5.6 rebounds.

Tabor (7-11, 5-7) has stayed in the middle of the league race behind defense and rebounding. The Bluejays allow 58.3 points per game and outscore opponents by 1.7 on the season. They've been even better in conference play, averaging 62.3 points while holding KCAC foes to 55.8.

Tayton Smith leads Tabor at 12.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game and has been dominant in conference action at 14.5 points and 12.3 boards. Lillie Veer is averaging 10.9 points per game, and Adrian Hazelwood has been a key outside option, hitting 39.5% from 3-point range in league games.

History has favored the Bluejays. Tabor has won seven straight in the series, and Southwestern is 1-9 in the last 10 meetings. The most recent matchup came Jan. 22, 2025, when Tabor earned a 66-44 win in Winfield.

Wednesday's game pairs Southwestern's perimeter-heavy attack against a Tabor team that has been efficient inside and disciplined defensively. Limiting turnovers will be a focus for the Lady Builders after averaging 16.3 per game, while Tabor will look to control the paint behind Smith and a defense that averages 2.6 blocks per game.
