KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Southwestern College Moundbuilders will look to keep their momentum rolling Monday night when they travel to Kansas City, Missouri, to take on the Avila University Eagles in a KCAC matchup at Mabee Fieldhouse.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
Southwestern enters the contest at 14-5 overall and 8-5 in conference play, coming off a convincing 78-53 road win over Tabor College on Saturday in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Moundbuilders were shorthanded in that contest but still controlled the game from start to finish behind a balanced effort.
Isaac Hoberecht led the way with 21 points and four assists, stepping up offensively, while Emery Eberhard was a force on the glass with 11 rebounds to go along with eight points.
Monday's matchup marks the second meeting of the season between the two teams, with Southwestern aiming to complete the season sweep. The Moundbuilders edged Avila 95-93 earlier this year at Stewart Fieldhouse in a tightly contested affair. In that game, Nigel John paced Southwestern with a team-high 18 points, while Zach Hidalgo added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Avila enters the matchup at 11-8 overall and 6-7 in KCAC play under third-year head coach Tyler Bredehoeft. The Eagles have remained competitive throughout the conference slate and will look to protect their home court as they continue their push in the league standings.
With the KCAC race remaining tight, Monday's contest carries added importance as Southwestern looks to continue climbing the standings and build on its recent strong play away from home.
