WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College used efficient shooting, balanced scoring and a dominant performance on the glass to cruise past York (Neb.) 82-55 on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field House.
The Moundbuilders (16-6, 10-6 KCAC) shot 53.4 percent from the field and connected on 14 of 23 attempts from 3-point range, while holding York to 33.3 percent shooting overall and just 17.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Wyatt Bell and Austin Hilton each scored 18 points to lead a balanced Southwestern attack that saw six players score at least eight points. Emery Eberhard added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Evan Barber finished with 14 points while knocking down four 3-pointers.
Southwestern controlled the tempo from the opening minutes, building a 39-25 halftime lead behind 51.7 percent shooting in the first half. The Moundbuilders continued to stretch the margin after the break, shooting 55.2 percent in the second half and pushing the lead to as many as 29 points.
The Moundbuilders outrebounded York 45-17, including a 12-2 edge on the offensive glass, and totaled 23 assists on 31 made baskets. Southwestern also finished with a 28-2 advantage in bench points, underscoring its depth.
Eli Sawyers contributed eight points, eight rebounds and five blocks, anchoring a defense that limited York to 55 points.
York (6-16, 4-12 KCAC) was led by Jaxon Kilmurry with 13 points and Jomar Ezell with 11. The Panthers struggled to generate offense from the perimeter, hitting just five 3-pointers.
Southwestern outscored York 43-30 in the second half to secure the conference victory.
The Moundbuilders will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 4, when they host Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Eagles enter the matchup with a 20-2 overall record and a 15-1 mark in conference play. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM inside Stewart Fieldhouse.
