WINFIELD, Kan. -Southwestern College returns to Stewart Fieldhouse on Wednesday night to host Evangel University in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Moundbuilders enter the contest with a 10-4 overall record and a 4-4 mark in conference play, while Evangel comes in at 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the KCAC as both teams continue to battle for position in the league standings.
Southwestern is coming off a decisive 91-64 road victory over York University on Friday, using a balanced offensive effort and control of the glass to pull away in the second half. The Moundbuilders led 44-34 at halftime and outscored York 47-30 after the break. Evan Barber scored a game-high 23 points, while Wyatt Bell and Nigel John added 16 points apiece. Isaac Hoberecht finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and Zach Hidalgo recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as Southwestern shot 47.2 percent from the field and held a 49-27 rebounding advantage.
Hidalgo was named the KCAC Defensive Player of the Week for games played Dec. 29–Jan. 4 after anchoring the Moundbuilders' defense over two starts. He averaged 13.0 rebounds per game, collecting 26 total boards with 19 coming on the defensive end, while adding three blocks and committing just one turnover. Against York, Hidalgo finished with 12 rebounds and two blocks in 32 minutes, providing consistent interior defense throughout the week.
Evangel enters Wednesday's matchup following a 78-60 win over McPherson College and has been led offensively by senior Garrett Davault, who averages a team-high 16.3 points per game. Drew McMillin has also been a key contributor, averaging 9.8 points and 2.9 assists per game, and is a significant threat from beyond the arc, shooting 37.5 percent from three-point range and averaging 4.6 made 3-pointers per contest.
